Love Notes and Calligraphic Table Tags: A Project Where Music Meets Calligraphy

On Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Masseria Palesi – Rurale Exclusive in Puglia, Mara Sattei, born Sara Mattei, and producer and musician Alessandro Donadei celebrated their wedding in an intimate ceremony away from the spotlight.

Music, an essential part of the couple’s story, became one of the most personal elements of the celebration through a project created for their guests.

Marta Lagna was invited to develop a calligraphic intervention conceived not as a decorative addition, but as an integral part of the wedding’s visual identity.

Love Songs Become Calligraphy: The Love Notes

For the ceremony, Marta Lagna created 130 personalised calligraphic cards, one for each guest.

The project began with the words of love songs: verses and phrases were selected and transformed by the calligrapher into handwritten compositions, giving every card its own identity.

Music therefore extended beyond the soundtrack of the day. It became visual matter.

Words originally belonging to songs were removed from their musical context and entrusted to the movement of the hand, taking on a new form on paper. Calligraphy introduced rhythm, pauses, density and movement, transforming each phrase into a small handwritten artwork.

A Different Thought for Every Guest: Wedding Calligraphy

Creating 130 individual cards took the project beyond simple personalisation.

Each card became an object designed to be found, read and kept. A seemingly small detail that created a direct connection with each person attending the ceremony.

The love songs became a collective dedication, expressed through individual fragments. Every guest received a word, a verse or a phrase that became part of the setting while also having the potential to live on beyond the wedding day.

This is where wedding calligraphy takes on a broader role: not simply as a way of personalising stationery, but as a design gesture capable of making every element personal and unique.

Handwriting restores an intimate quality to the written word, turning each card into a one-of-a-kind original.

Paper as Part of the Setting

The cards were placed on the ceremony chairs, becoming part of the wedding’s outdoor setting.

Within the rustic-chic atmosphere of the masseria, surrounded by vegetation and natural materials, the small paper pieces introduced a more graphic and contemporary element.

The black calligraphic mark interacts with the surrounding landscape without attempting to reproduce it. Paper instead becomes a discreet surface on which the written word emerges as a visual element.

A small intervention in scale, but one capable of influencing the overall experience of the ceremony.

From Decoration to Keepsake

The project also gains significance from what happens after the event.

An element conceived for the wedding does not necessarily end its life on the wedding day: it can be taken home, kept and read again.

The card therefore becomes a small author’s object, somewhere between stationery, calligraphic artwork and personal keepsake. Not simply a place card and not a traditional wedding favour, but a fragment of the couple’s story entrusted to handwriting.

It is an approach to event design that places meaning before quantity, focusing on the significance of individual elements rather than the number of details.

Calligraphic Table Tags: Calligraphy at the Table

The project continues at the reception table, where handwriting becomes part of the mise en place through a series of Calligraphic Table Tags created to accompany different elements of the reception.

Here too, the mark retains its handmade and personal quality, introducing a discreet yet recognisable graphic detail into the table setting.

The tags create continuity between ceremony and reception, carrying the same visual language from the cards created for guests into the finer details of the setting.

A project built entirely around the written word, in which calligraphy accompanies the wedding experience through small elements designed to be read, discovered and kept.
